TANK PLATOON ARTEP TASKS (ARTEP 17-237-10-MTP)

DISPLACE TO SUCCESSIVE/ALTERNATE BATTLE POSITION

CONDITION: The platoon is conducting a defensive operation as part of a company team or cavalry troop. Enemy forces have advanced in sufficient force to meet the company team's disengagement criteria in accordance with the OPORD/FRAGO, or the commander has ordered displacement to a successive or alternate position because of a change of a mission. The platoon's movement may or may not be overwatched by another platoon.

TASK STANDARD: The platoon executes the displacement, conducts hasty occupation of the successive/alternate battleposition, and is prepared to fight and/or provide overwatch for the remainder of the company team or troop.

PERFORMACE MEASURES:

1. Platoon leader initiates displacement.

a. Designates an overwatch element if the displacement is not covered by another platoon.

b. Initiates Final Protective Fires, if allocated.

c. Orders the platoon to begin displacement.

2. If overwatch is provided by another platoon, platoon displaces to a successive/alternate battleposition.

a. Backs down into hide positions and, keeping weapons oriented in the direction of the last enemy contact, turns toward the successive/alternate battleposition.

b. Uses on-board smoke in accordance with METT-T.

c. Conducts tactical movement to the successive or alternate battleposition, using covered and concealed routes while keeping all weapons oriented in the direction of the last known enemy contact.

d. Enters the successive or alternate battleposition from the flank or rear.

3. If overwatch is not provided by another platoon, platoon displaces by section to the successive or alternate battleposition.

a. As necessary, overwaatch section observes and/or engages the enemy.

b. Maneuver section backs down into a hide position and, keeping weapons oriented in the direction of last enemy contact, begins movement toward the successive or alternate battleposition.

c. Once the maneuver section is under way, overwatch section backs down into a hide position and, keeping weapons oriented in the direction of the last enemy contact, begins movement toward the successive or alternate battleposition.

d. Conducts tactical movement to the successive or alternate battleposition.

(NOTE: Each section uses the appropriate movement technique, maintains the proper speed and interval, follows a covered and concealed route, and keeps all weapons oriented in the direction of the last known enemy contact.)

e. Uses on-board smoke in accordance with METT-T.

f. Enters successive or alternate battleposition from the flank or rear.

4. Platoon conducts hasty occupation of the successive or alternate battleposition.

a. Moves simultaneously into turret-down positions within the primary fighting positions.

b. Platoon leader designates defensive control measures.

c. Adjusts positions as necessary to cover the engagement area.

d. Platoon leader reports "ESTABLISHED" to the commander.

c. As time permits, performs additional steps of a deliberate occupation.
